War for Cybertron
Exclusive Interview - Designers From High Moon Talk War for Cybertron!

By Ender on Friday, December 18, 2009

News about the upcoming Transformers: War for Cybertron seems to be cropping up everywhere, yet details about the upcoming title are sparse. Tformers had a chance to talk to designers from Hasbro and Activision as well as ask some questions of War for Cybertron developer, High Moon Studios. Many aspects of the game are still being kept under wraps, but we managed to glean some new insights into what we can expect from the game.

Cybertron often gets short shrift, a war torn metallic back ground, abandoned and often just plain un-interesting. War for Cybertron aims to do justice to its namesake by providing the most expansive look at the planet to date, giving us a picture of a functioning, populated Cybertron. War for Cybertron “broadens what the planet is about in a visual way that we’ve never been able to get behind.”

When queried about the images of what looks to be prototypes of War for Cybertron toys, Hasbro would only say that they intend to “maximize” this property in variety of different ways.

It doesn’t seem like High Moon could be any more excited about this game. They describe it simply as, “a high action shooter which just happens to be bundled with the greatest license of all time”. Hard to argue with that.

Coy about cast info and multi-player details, High Moon opened up a little on play control for us. “We have opted for a different control scheme from the previous Transformers game. Although I will say that we have tried a few options we finally settled on a tried and true layout which allows the player to transform whenever they want while still feeling like they are in complete control at all times. This is based on our internal and external focus testing. Maybe a better way to answer this would be to say that our design philosophy is that the gamer should pick up the controller and immediately be good with the game, the controls should feel familiar and tight – and that is what we have."

Though not developing them themselves, High Moon did confirm that there would be Nintendo DS and Wii versions of the game.

We’ve learned that Omega Supreme is the final boss of the Decepticon campaign, but we dared to ask if the big guy would be playable and… They didn’t say no!
